The monument, created by the Dresden sculptors Köppl and Polte, was originally intended to be erected in May 1913 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the city fire. Replica (2009) of a Saxon distance column from 1724 from the former Bautzen Gate on Bahnhofstrasse in Bischofswerda. The original coat of arms and inscription are located in Bischofswerda Town Hall.
