For the first section of the path along the mill ditch, just behind the mill pond, it is advisable to change to the right side of the stream (even for the short section). The path is simply a bit more natural here and even more beautiful, in my opinion 🙂

HIKE THROUGH THE HELLBACHTAL Natural hiking trails run through the rustic mixed forests. The meltwater from the last ice age formed the valley through which the Hellbach flows. The highlight of the tour remains a variety of different types of water, the likes of which you would hardly find in such a small area. The gap is repeatedly bridged by wonderful views and insights into a meadow valley. The winding Hellbach with its alder belt offers good observation opportunities at the bridges and footbridges. The church stands high above the medieval town on the Eichberg. It is dedicated to Saint Nicholas of Myra and is a landmark of Mölln. Construction is assumed to have begun at the end of the 12th or the first quarter of the 13th century, since, according to the list of the Ratzeburg cathedral chapter, the town of Mölln still belonged to the parish of Breitenfelde around 1194 and is itself mentioned as a place with a church in the Ratzeburg tithe register from 1230. The oldest parts of the church are brick Romanesque, the tower and south aisle are brick Gothic. The church was initially built as a late Romanesque three-aisled pillar basilica. The Altenkrempe Basilica may have been the model for this church building. The choir room was probably finished around 1217, when the Bishop of Ratzeburg held his first synod here. In the second half of the 15th century, the church underwent significant renovations: in 1470/71 the south aisle was expanded in a Gothic style, and in 1497 the current baptismal chapel and the original two-story sacristy were added to the east. A chapel dedicated to Saint Jobst was built on the north side of the nave. In 1896 the church was completely renovated. The Jobst Chapel and the upper floor of the sacristy were demolished, partly because they were dilapidated and partly to restore the overall basilica impression. The south aisle received a new roof with three hipped gable roofs, and the interior painting was partly restored and partly redesigned in the neo-Gothic style. Most of the neo-Gothic paintings were removed in 1959. The town hall, the Nicolai Church, the Eulenspiegel Fountain and of course the Eulenspiegel Museum are arranged in one square in the heart of the old town. Very atmospheric place!
