The direct ascent via the very steep gravel road is definitely not worth it. The so-called lake is definitely not a highlight! The path down towards the waterfall is very beautiful, though. There are a few sections over scree, but it's all doable! Surefootedness is required!

The Rifflsee is the largest lake in the Ötztal Alps. The mountain lake is located in the Kaunergrat to the west above the Pitztal and is a typical moraine reservoir. The lake fills an extensive valley basin, the glacially cloudy water appears greenish. It is framed to the north and west by the rugged peaks of the Kaunergrat, with the Seekogel and Rostizkogel being particularly striking. In sunny and warm weather, a significant amount of meltwater is supplied.
