Collapsed quartzite rock forms Blackrock Summit. The rock is believed to be formed from the seabed of the Iapetus ocean, an ancient sea that disappeared more than 400 million years ago.

In 1999, the trail was named after the Frazier family, who lived on Loft Mountain and worked the land until the 1930s. The trail features a mix of dirt and rocky sections, winding through grassy and forested areas. The entire section maintains a steady incline.

A well-maintained dirt path leads you on a steady incline to this spot, where you'll enjoy panoramic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. As you approach the summit, the trail becomes rockier, offering a fun and technical run.

From the summit there is a splendid view of Shenandoah National Park. A summit that deserves to be reached.

Rockytop is a 2,850-foot peak that gives you a great view of the other peaks in Shenandoah National Park. The trail to get up to the peak is straightforward, but challenging. However, it is definitely worth the effort for the view at the top.

Stay on the Brown Mountain Trail and you'll reach Rocky Mountain. At the summit you'll find the rocky outcrop that gave this summit its name. The area was damaged by a fire and an ice storm in 2016 and 2018 respectively and it is nice to see how nature is already creeping back in.

The High Knob Fire Tower is a historic tower constructed with rocks from the Shenandoah Mountains by Civilian Conservation Corps workers and World War I veterans. The tower is the only stone fire tower in Virginia, which makes it a unique place to appreciate views of George Washington National Forest.
