This impressive screw was installed in 2016 at the site of this weir in the Dommel River. The flowing water sets the screw in motion. The energy generated provides green electricity to 170 homes in nearby Sint-Michielsgestel. The hydroelectric power plant is an initiative of two villagers, who formed a cooperative to raise the necessary funds for the plant.

Here you have a beautiful view of the bend in the river Dommel near Vught. The Dommel is a picturesque river that flows through the south of the Netherlands, mainly through the provinces of North Brabant and Limburg. With a length of approximately 90 kilometers, the Dommel rises in Belgium, near Mol, and winds through several Dutch places, including Eindhoven, Son en Breugel and Sint-Oedenrode, to finally flow into the Meuse (Maas) near 's-Hertogenbosch. The Dommel winds through a varied landscape of forests, heathlands, marshes and meadows.

The Dommelstroom hydroelectric power station is the first cooperative hydroelectric power station in the Netherlands and was officially put into use on November 5, 2016.
