From Blue Ridge Gap you can hike the Appalachian Trail, crossing the border between Georgia and North Carolina. The trail can be steep and rocky in some sections, but nothing too hard. The Southern Nantahala Forest is known for its history of bear activity, be cautious, and carry bear spray and a bear canister with you in case you're doing an overnight trip.

The Appalachian Trail traverses a secluded section designated as the Chattahoochee Wildlife Management Area, a 25,000-acre preserved region. This forested area serves as a healthy habitat for a diverse range of animals and plants. As the trail winds through several mountains and knobs, you can enjoy abundant wildflowers in spring and summer.

The Jacks Knob Trail has a steep ascent with some rocky sections that can make certain parts challenging. However, the effort is rewarded by the vibrant forest surrounding the trail, which is home to different species of plants, insects and animals.

Spaniards Knob is characterized by its rounded hill shape, typical of the Appalachian Mountains. Unlike a prominent peak, its highest part is flat. The knob is covered by dense forest, which limits the panoramic views, but the surrounding natural environment makes it a special place for hiking. The area is rich in wildflowers, adding to its scenic appeal and making it a good spot for nature enthusiasts.

Tray Mountain, standing at an elevation of 4,430 ft, ranks as the seventh-highest peak in Georgia. Reaching the summit involves a continuous climb through a lush forest, and once at the top, you're rewarded with a stunning view of the rolling hills in the area.

The short side trail is well-marked with the vista sign and blue blazes. There’s a lovely flat campsite and a little farther a granite outcropping with great views of the mountains and Lake Burton in the distance.

The "bald" was chosen as an ideal site for an observatory that is open to visitors, and the views will certainly not disappoint if the weather is favorable.

High Shoals Creek may prove irresistible on hot summer days, as the trail hugs its banks throughout most of this hike.
