Dowells Draft Trail goes up a steady incline with some flat parts along the way. The last mile before Hankey Mountain is flat, allowing hikers to enjoy some views between the trees. The trail is used by mountain bikers too, so be sure to exercise caution.

Hankey Mountain rises in the Appalachian Mountain range close to Churchville; the peak is 3520 ft high. From Hankey Mountain you can see the mountain range in Ramsey’s Draft Wilderness, on the other side of the valley, with peaks such as The Pinnacle and Big Bald Knob. The North River valley and the mountains around the peak are all covered by lush forest; this beautiful landscape can be seen from the summit.

Lookout Mountain is one of the best viewpoints that you will find along Wild Oak Trail. The lookout has breathtaking views of the Shenandoah Mountains and North River Valley. The trail to there is often used by mountain bikers also, so stay alert as they may come barreling through.
