This is a beautiful trail in the depth of the forest. There are a few openings between boulders and trees with breathtaking views of Calvin Creek.

The trail gets really close to Calvin Creek. You will find a few logs to sit and enjoy a little break next to the beautifully blue water.

The Gauntlet is a fairly straight line with a series of jumps which can be easily avoided by those who are sparing their joints, or those who want to carry more speed. Great fun!

Explore Park consists of miles and miles of trails across hundreds of acres. You'll find rolling hills, meadows, river access, historical buildings, and dense woodlands. You'll have plenty to do whether you stop for just an hour or decide to spend the day.

The Roanoke River runs for 410 miles from the eastern Appalachian Mountains to the Atlantic Ocean at Albemarle Sound. The name Roanoke is derived from the Algonquin "rawrenok", which was their name for the tubular white shell beads more commonly known as wampum.

Brushy Mountain (2,382 ft), offers a beautiful view of the McAfee Knob southern part, such as the Carvins Cove Natural Reservoir. It is worth a little stop to appreciate the landscape below us.

This 630-acre reservoir is located within the 12,000 Carvins Cove Natural Reserve. It is the source of the area's drinking water but is also open to the public for recreation.

Brushy Mountain is a popular destination, especially when exploring the reserve via the Carvin's Cove Trail system, which is well known for its extensive hiking and biking trails. Brushy Mountain Fire Road will take you to the top, where you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Carvin's Lake, the lush forest, and the surrounding Blue Ridge mountains. The stunning scenery is a perfect backdrop for capturing some incredible photos.
