Located on a 3,908-acre (15.8 km²) peninsula on the James River, the Hog Island Wildlife Management Area (WMA) comprises three sections: the Hog Island Tract and the Carlisle Tract in Surry County, and the Stewart Tract in Isle of Wight County. More than 30 species of waterfowl and 35 species of shorebirds have been recorded. It is common to see American white pelicans, snow geese, mallards, hornbills, bald eagles, herons, ospreys, and other migratory species.
