I actually found it a long boring stretch with few views. The last few kilometers downhill are nice, but I would rather go for the busier road

Very beautiful road, just keep an eye out for all the pedestrians also using the path ;)

The beautiful chapel is located in the middle of a local recreation area with a volleyball court, kiosk and playgrounds for all ages. There are many free parking spaces and swimming areas on the lake nearby.

Idyllic mountain lake surrounded by dense mixed forests with various paths to walk around. There are two campsites directly on the lake and several bathing areas. The water is fresh and very clear (August 2024) with sandy, shallow entrances. If you like, you will also find a kiosk, ice cream stands, pedal boat rentals, etc. Wonderful to swim in the mountain panorama!

Located on the shores of Lake Longemer, the small chapel was built around 1449 by the ladies canonesses of Remiremont to perpetuate the memory of Bilon, officer of Gérard d'Alsace. In 1056 Bilon, who became a hermit, founded an oratory and a cell on a hillock on the left bank of the lake. - After the chapel fell into disrepair, it was rebuilt in 1727 and dedicated to Saint-Florent, Bishop of Strasbourg. In 1830, a safe containing a skeleton and a chain was discovered there. - The chapel became the property of the municipality of Xonrupt-Longemer in 1956. The hill on which she stands at the edge of the lake is called "Butte Bilon".

Alternative to the main road from Gérademer to Lac de Longemer. Particularly in the first section, out of Gérademer, very steep over a long stretch. The narrow asphalt road through the forest is an experience in itself and highly recommended.

Located on the shores of Lake Longemer, the small chapel was built around 1449 by the Dames Canonesses de Remiremont in order to perpetuate the memory of Bilon, officer of Gérard d'Alsace. In 1056, Bilon, who became a hermit, erected an oratory and a cell on a hillock on the left bank of the lake. - Having fallen into ruin, the chapel was rebuilt in 1727 and dedicated to Saint-Florent, bishop of Strasbourg. A vault containing a skeleton and a chain was discovered there in 18301. - The chapel became the property of the commune of Xonrupt-Longemer in 1956. The mound on which it stands at the edge of the lake is called "Butte Bilon". The upper part of the chapel is covered with wooden cladding. In the region, small spruce planks split into the grain of the wood called "essis" are made by hand. This technique uses wood for long-lasting efficiency and solidity to insulate against rain and cold.

Beautiful road through the forest. Very quiet. The road surface is fine for a road bike, just some moss and stones here and there.
