The Reeuwijkse Plassen are a long, elongated water and nature reserve near Gouda, created by medieval peat extraction. It's a popular area for walking, cycling, and especially for boating and stand-up paddleboarding. Around the lakes, you'll find beaches, nature, and charming restaurants and cafes, especially near Reeuwijk-Brug.

The Reeuwijkse Plassen consist of thirteen lakes, twelve of which were created by peat extraction in the 18th century. One lake, the Broekvelden/Vettenbroek, was only created in the 20th century by sand extraction. Today, many of the lakes are used for water recreation.

The meadows of this polder are grazed by cows in the summer, but the watery polder is also a favorite with birds! For example, you might spot a great egret or the rare cattle egret here during the summer months.

This is a traditional white drawbridge over a narrow ditch at the Reeuwijkse Plassen.

Nice paths but preferably not on nice days during the weekend.

Nice tower that overlooks part of the Reeuwijkse Plassen and part of the Reeuwijkse Hout. Tower is not very high so for most people reasonably climbable. Worth the effort to go up!

Lovely area for an evening walk. On a nice weekend day I'd rather stay away.
