Saint JOHN BAPTIST, to whom this church is dedicated, is a person on the threshold of the Old and New Testaments (just like the Holy Family with Mary and Joseph). His parents are Zacharias and Elizabeth. After the announcement of the Incarnation of God through them, the Mother of God visits her relative Elizabeth, who will give birth to a son in old age, namely John the Baptist. He is half a year older than Jesus and is considered his forerunner/pioneer. He lives in the desert, preaches repentance from sins to the Jewish population and baptizes them in the Jordan. This is a veritable hub for visitors going to visit Coleshill Estate, run by the National Trust. The Old Carpenters Yard in Coleshill is home to Blake's Kitchen, which serves a yummy selection of cakes, savoury foods, sandwiches, or hot food. It has a large outside seating area and is a dog-friendly venue.

Step off the old railway line to see them. There are actually a few others on the route, one near the orchard and a couple by the carpark in Stanton

Can be slippery underfoot if rained recently

The smallest of all 45 locks of the River Thames, Buscot Lock looks the same today as it did when it was built in 1790. The nearby weir pool is now a National Trust picnic area where you can spot and otters, kites, and kingfishers, too.

When you pass St John's Lock, the furthest upstream lock on the River Thames, it is traditional to pay your respects to Old Father Thames. This statue was commissioned in 1854 for the Crystal Palace's grounds, was later moved to Thames Head, and then relocated to St John's Lock.

Ha'penny Bridge is an old stone bridge with a small toll house that was built in 1792. The halfpenny toll to use the bridge was abolished in 1839 after a local revolt. The bridge and its toll house are a Grade II listed building and mark the start of the navigable Thames.

This Grade I-listed church has Anglo-Saxon origins but most of the current structure was built around 1205. Mostly unchanged since the medieval era, it is now a redundant church in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. Lovingly restored by William Morris, the 19th century poet and craftsman who lived in nearby Kelmscott, the inside of the church tells the story of over 1,000 years of religious history; from Anglo-Saxon carvings on one wall, to medieval wall paintings on another, to passages from the Bible etched elsewhere from the Reformation.
