View of Pentewan Sands

From the clifftops just north of Megavissey you are afforded wonderful views of the picturesque Pentweasn Sands beach. It's a wide, sandy beach that stretches for nearly a mile across the gorgeous south Cornwall coastline.

The three white houses on Chapel Point were built in the 1930s and feature in Daphne Du Maurier's novel 'The House on the Strand'.

There is plenty of trail running from Gorran Haven in both directions, including circular routes. The fishing village has a few shops and a picturesque harbour and makes a great start/finish point or stopover on a longer run.

Pentewan Sands is backed by a huge caravan park which you can see clearly from this vantage point. The holiday park own the beach but it remains open to all. You can even hire canoes and dinghies from there if you have some time to spare while you're in the area and want to further explore what this stunning coastline has to offer.

This shared use hiking and cycling path passes by the St Austell River in the Pentewan Valley. It was an important place in the area's industrial history with tin being transported down the river from the St Austell mines to be shipped out at Pentewan Harbour. The river was even straightened to simplify the journey.
