This area is beautiful and diverse: mountains, rivers, lakes, forests, heaths, moors... - "My heart, what more could you want?" The river offers several spots where you can cool off (it's really cold! And only choose spots where you can easily exit the water!)

The sculpture park is located right along the path, so you can "just take it with you" without much detour. We didn't notice any signage for this open-air exhibition, but the area, which is surrounded by a wall, is easy to spot.

Nice hike, great views, but wow there’s a lot of clear cutting that has been done recently. It really detracts when you come across it on the way up.

We stopped here on our hike and were unfortunately disappointed by both the accommodation (main building, in need of complete renovation!) and the restaurant (we didn't get any food because we, as hikers, arrived 30 minutes later than we had reserved)

It's well worth taking a diversion on the "red trail" to climb to a viewpoint high above the lochans - the view is stunning!

One of 2 viewpoints from up here; the other viewpoint offers a better view of the lochans but this one has a seat. Recommend taking a clockwise route: a gentler climb up.

Taking a clockwise route from the lochans up to the viewpoints (x2) gives a smooth gentler ascent and a steeper more rugged descent.

The Watersports Centre offers a restaurant and toilets and, with its car parking, makes an excellent start/finish point for a hike - or swim, etc etc. Oh, and it is scenic of course.

Loch Insh Watersports Centre is about 1.5km south. The centre has a restaurant, and toilets and is generally just a nice place to take a break and look out over the water. The mighty Speyside Way, with its general excellent gravel paths, passes by just north of here.
