Lake Chiusi, located in the heart of the Valdichiana, forms the border between Tuscany and Umbria on its eastern shore, corresponding to the ancient border between the Grand Duchy of Tuscany and the Papal States. A legend handed down over time attributes the name of "Moonlight" to the lake, in reference to the belief that the goddess of the sky admired her reflection in these waters during clear nights.
