4月 27, 2023, Westbury White Horse
The oldest of the Wiltshire white horses this was originally cut in 1772 and restored in 1778. There was evidence of an older horse here facing the other way, but no strong evidence suggests how old that was. In 1872/1873 the horse was considered to be losing its shape, it was re cut and edging stones added. In 1957 the horse was concreted to preserve it. For the runner the trails around the top of the horse are great fun and the 33-mile Imber trail also passes here. There are nice loops from the car park above the horse or from nearby Westbury.

4月 27, 2023, Lily Pads on the River, Southwick Country Park
An oasis of green on the edge of the town of Trowbridge, Southwick Country Park is a nature reserve and home to a wide variety of wildlife, including rare reptiles such as adders, grass snakes and slow worms, alongside diverse wetland, woodland and grassland habitats. With a mix of surfaced paths, good for year-round and buggy/wheelchair use, and adventurous off-road trails, which do get muddy in winter, there's a walk to suit everyone. The Hope Nature Centre on site has goats, ponies and other animals - great for children - and there's parkrun on a Saturday morning, too.

11月 7, 2022, View of Westbury Quarry
Located on both the Imber Range path and Wessex Ridgeway, this former quarry isn't accessible to the public but there are good views from the path. The chalk pit has been used as a location for TV and film. Overall this is a lovely area for trail running with well-maintained paths across calcerous grassland - great for spotting wildflowers and butterflies over the summer months and murmurating starlings in autumn.

6月 27, 2022, Bradford on Avon Town Centre and Historic Bridge
The town bridge was originally constructed in the 14th century, then widened in the 18th century. If you view the bridge from the downstream side the arches are rounded but view from the upstream side and you'll notice that the arches are pointed. The small building on the bridge is thought to have originally been a chapel but was converted into the town lock up in the 17th century.

10月 7, 2021, View of Westbury Quarry
The quarry is on the Imber Range path and also Wessex Ridgeway path from Westbury towards Warminster. You can't get in to explore but can get some good views of the quarry from the path - vegetation permitting. This quarry has been used as a location for TV and film - the latest a Tom Cruise film. Overall this is a lovely area to walk in with well-maintained paths. If you need an easy walk, you can use the large car park at the White Horse/Bratton hill fort and then the path is on the level and with a good surface.

7月 4, 2021, View from Bratton Down
Great parking on top of the hill with fabulous views all around. The ice cream van is also very welcome when it’s hot. The paths are well-maintained with several routes to follow. Bratton hillfort is well worth a wander around too.

5月 6, 2020, Westbury White Horse
Bratton Camp was originally an Iron Age hill fort built over 2,000 years ago to defend the settlement from its enemies. Today the hill's most defining feature is the striking white horse cut into its slopes. Records suggest that the horse was made at the end of the 17th century to commemorate the Battle of Ethandun. Despite its turbulent past, Bratton Camp is now a relaxing place to take a stroll. The chalk grassland is teeming with wildlife and insects. Look out for the rare Adonis Blue butterfly which can be found here. You can visit any time during daylight hours. Entrance is free.
