It's unbelievable what people have achieved and built in the past (without any technology) - it's simply impressive and breathtaking

"Discover the story of the original Salisbury and take the family for an action-packed day out at Old Sarum. Stand in the footprint of Salisbury's first cathedral, conquer the ruins of the royal castle, and discover the awe-inspiring landscape where it all began. One of the South’s most significant historic sites – William the Conqueror once hosted a great gathering at Old Sarum. Soak up the atmosphere as you explore a city lost to time. There’s over 2,000 years of history to discover, as well as unrivalled views across the Wiltshire countryside. (Text from https://www.visitwiltshire.co.uk/salisbury/things-to-do/old-sarum-p133943 )

Can someone please be happy/laughing with me that Google Translate turns Amy's "henge and timber monument" into "Denkmal für Hühner 🐔" in German? - Great 😂😂😂

7月 1, 2024, St Thomas’s Church, Salisbury
"St Thomas’s belongs to the Church of England and is also part of the Inclusive Church initiative, which means that we are committed to ensure that all are truly welcome, whatever their story. ... Our beautiful building is the latest one on this site which has been used for worship for nearly eight hundred years. Most of the building seen today dates from the 15th century, and the church houses many treasures from across the centuries. St Thomas's has always been the church of the City, and the painted badges of the Guilds are still visible in the medieval wall paintings of the Lady Chapel." Sarsen stones are blocks of sandstone found in large numbers in England, it is a contraction of Saracen stone, where “Saracenic” is equivalent to “pagan”. In this respect, sarsen means something like “heathen stone”, “stone of the heathen”. The most famous sarsen stones can be found here in Stonehenge.

This beautiful church in the heart of Salisbury is often bypassed in favour of the magnificent cathedral. However, this is a magnificent building with impressive architecture that's well worth a visit.

You can take a nice cross country hike from the interesting historic Woodhenge ancient monument to the global icon that is Stonehenge. If you do this hike then you will save the parking and entry charges at Stonehenge (£30 ish). If you pay you get to go closer to Stonehenge (about 30m) but you get to within 70m on this walking route. You simply end up on the other side of the fence to the ticket purchasers. Plus you get a good walk out of it. Depends on what you want? Parking at start point. Hike Route - https://www.komoot.com/tour/1058100383

We first considered whether we should save the entrance fee and use the outer path. However, we were not so sure about the parking situation from the northern entrance, which is why we decided to pay the entrance fee and took the bus from the visitor center to the bus stop right in front of the stones. We were a lot closer to it, especially on the south and west side, than the path of the non-payers, which leads past the stones at a greater distance. Since we will probably not have this chance again to look at the stones up close, we have not regretted the entry. By the way, cheaper with National Trust!

There are various, partly complementary, partly contradictory hypotheses about the reason and ultimate purpose of this highly complex system. These range from a self-portrait of a prehistoric alliance between two formerly hostile tribal organizations to a burial site, an astronomical observatory including a calendar for the sowing and harvesting times and a religious place of worship.

Lying within the Stonehenge World Heritage Site, Woodhenge is a Neolithic Class II henge and timber circle monument. It wasn't discovered until 1926 when a pilot took an aerial photo of the area. The monument was probably built around 2300 BC as a large burial mound. The site is managed by English Heritage and free to visit. You can visit anytime during daylight hours. 2月 7, 2020, Old Sarum Ruins
Old Sarum is thought to have been one of the earliest settlements in Salisbury and it appears in some of the UK's oldest records. Built close to Stonehenge and the Avebury monoliths, Old Sarum probably dates back to around 3000 BC. The settlement lived through varied history including Roman conquest, and Saxon and Norman rule. In 1514, Henry VIII sold the castle grounds and the settlement gradually fell into decline. The site is now managed by English Heritage and Grade I listed. You can visit from 10am - 4pm Friday to Sunday. Entrance is £5.40 per adult. More information: https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/old-sarum/

One can measure his powers at this Sarsonstein. To get the stone moving, I still need 80 times.
