Stonehenge is without a doubt one of the most famous sites in the world. Visitors can enjoy a visitor-centre with exhibitions, five Neolithic houses, a shop and a café. Opening hours and fees found here: english-heritage.org.uk/daysout/properties/stonehenge/prices-and-opening-times?lang=en

Stonehenge was built in the Neolithic Age and was used at least until the Bronze Age. It is a moat surrounded by a megalithic structure formed by several concentric stone circles. The two most striking stone circles are the outer circle with the pillar stones bridged by capstones and the inner horseshoe-shaped structure originally made of five triliths - this is the name given to two supporting stones that are bridged by a capstone. There is disagreement about the purpose of this elaborate complex: everything seems possible, from a cult and meeting place to a religious temple complex and burial site to an astronomical observatory.

We booked our tickets and the day of the visit in advance on the Internet at English Heritage (Stonehenge site is managed by the National Trust, the visitor center of English Heritage.)

You can take a shuttle bus from the visitor center to the stone circle.
From there you can visit other prehistoric sites associated with Stonehenge.
