The Lamplighter's pub dates to 1760. It's a country pub on the banks of the Avon with lots of outside seating if the weathers nice and a roaring fire if it's not. They serve traditional pub food at reasonable prices as well as a selection of drinks and snacks. Open 12:00 - 22:00 every day. Food served Mon to Sat 12:00 - 14:30 & 17:30 - 21:00. Sun 12:00 - 16:00.

Penpole Point is a stone sundial standing at 67m on the western end of the hill. It marks the end of the Kings Weston estate. There used to be great views from here but in recent years it's become overgrown. Still a nice place to sit and enjoy a break from your walk.

Prior's Wood is a wonderful area of ancient woodland. There are streams that run through the woodland and in spring the floor is carpeted with bluebells. The loop of paths around the wood creates an obvious short walk or link it with nearby Birch wood for a longer stroll. Be warned though, the paths get very muddy and slippery in the winter.

Great atmosphere, very shaded patch of woods but a difficult path. The path from here to Portbury is very steep with massive roots underfoot, so go carefully downhill. Strongly recommend avoiding if it's muddy.

The wooded ridgeline of Kings Weston Hill is a delightfully serene place for a walk. A footpath runs right along it, revealing the occasional wide-ranging view across western Bristol. From certain places it's even possible to spot the distant Clifton Suspension Bridge.

Standing proud on Castle Hill and visible above the trees for miles around is Blaise Castle. This 18th-century, Gothic Revival style folly was built by Robert Mylne and it became a popular attraction on the Blaise Castle Estate. From its turrets, much of Bristol can be seen, as well as Avonmouth and the Avon Gorge. Any run to Blaise Castle involves a little bit of legwork to get up the hill. However, you are amply rewarded with fun descents down towards Hazel Brook at the bottom of Henbury Gorge.

Priors Wood is one of the best places around Bristol to go bluebell hunting. You might need to lift your bike over a gate and be nice to pedestrians as there’s a lot of footpaths.
