Par Sands is a wide sandy expanse of beach with a network of sand dunes behind. The beach is flanked by Cornwall's famous exports. Looking towards the beach and east is a rural idyll whereas looking west is a china clayworks, still in use today.

The grotto here was built in the late 18th century. Although you can't access it, you can see the octagonal folly from the beach. The area is called Polridmouth Bay which is pronounced Pridmouth.

Managed by English Heritage, St Catherine's Castle was built in the early 16th century. It was commissioned by King Henry VIII as part of his defence system against attack on Fowey Harbour by France.
