A beautiful loop From Todtenhausen via the water junction, always along the Weser! A short detour to Bad Oeynhausen on the Werre. Then back along the river! Lots of nature and a lovely location in Minden. A great day trip, about 60 km!

The Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial in Porta Westfalica was built in honor of Kaiser Wilhelm I. The large bronze statue depicts him himself – created by the sculptor Caspar von Zumbusch. The building was designed by the architect Bruno Schmitz. The memorial was erected between 1892 and 1896 on the Wittekindsberg. The impetus for its construction came from the Westphalian Provincial Parliament. It was officially opened on October 18, 1896 – with Kaiser Wilhelm II and Empress Augusta Victoria in attendance. The ring terrace at the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial was completely rebuilt between 2013 and 2018. Part of it had been blown up in 1946 and has been severely damaged ever since. As part of the renovation, not only was the terrace restored, but a modern visitor center and a restaurant were also added. The official reopening took place on July 8, 2018.

At the Minden waterway junction (on the north-eastern edge of the city of Minden), the Mittelland Canal is led over the Weser in almost 400-meter-long trough bridges. The canal level is about 13 meters above that of the Weser. This saves the canal having to descend and ascend to/from the Weser valley floor. The waterway junction is located within a 174 km-long lock-free section of the canal. The canal is connected to the Weser via two short connecting canals with locks (including the Minden Schachtschleuse and Minden Weserschleuse economy locks). The Mittelland Canal / Elbe-Seitenkanal Waterways and Shipping Office is responsible for the Mittelland Canal, Weser and the two connecting canals.
