The Bosque de Perales is an extraordinary forest mass of holm oak, juniper, kermes oak, hawthorn, sage, thyme, lavender and the rest of the flora and scrub of the Mediterranean mountain range between the rural moorland of La Mesa and the Tajuña river plain. There are hardly any crops in the Bosque, it is a fairly naturalised forested hillside that serves as a refuge for fauna and preserves valuable botanical and forest ecosystems.

Perales de Tajuña is strategically located in the Tajuña valley, a passage for ancient Roman roads, pastoral paths and medieval paths that have attracted the interest of all the cultures that have inhabited the southeast of the province of Madrid since the Iberians. The Romans and the Arabs were the main creators of the network of dams and weirs that are still essential in the distribution of irrigation water in the Tajuña orchards. The town has streets that maintain the medieval layout on the side of the valley, they are narrow, stepped and steep, connected by ramps and steps. In the Plaza de la Constitución is the Town Hall, built in the time of Charles III in the old Council House. And nearby is the monumental Baroque style Mariblanca Fountain, called the Ball Game by the local population.

The Fuente del Arce is another of the historic springs in Tielmes. It is halfway up the hill and has good views of the Tajuña valley. The fountain has a stone wall and a spout with a small basin that does not usually have water all year round. Nearby is the Fuente del Sacristán, somewhat hidden, and then the descent towards Tielmes along the steep slope of the famous “Tielmes es corazón” bank.

The plain of the Valdecañas stream is a plain of crops and fruit trees that take advantage of the water resources of the Horcajo and Valdecañas springs. The path runs along the south side of the valley, opposite the road, and does not pass through the trees of the Valdecañas spring, although at the end you have to follow a new section of the ditch to the entrance of the Horcajo ravine because the parallel livestock track is uncomfortable to walk on.

The Tajuña bridge is a careful reconstruction of the original 17th century bridge. It has a single arch and is in medieval style. It suffered serious damage during the War of Succession and has been restored several times as an essential passage in the Tajuña plain. The last repair was in 2013, maintaining the original structure.

“Tielmes is heart” is written on the back of the “most beautiful bench”, and to enjoy the views from the panoramic bench it is recommended to take the Route of the viewpoints and fountains and wait until the end of the route. Tielmes is also nature, popular culture, history, ethnography and heritage, it is on the path of the Tajuña Green Route, the Camino de Uclés and the Camino de Santiago de Uclés. A convenient place to park is the car park of the Park, at the entrance of the town, where the hiking routes begin, and good access to visit the urban complex, pass by the beautiful wash house and see the buildings of the Plaza de España, the Plaza de la Constitución and the Plaza de la Iglesia, with a stone fountain and the parish church of the Santos Niños Justo y Pastor. On Calle de la Escuela is the Casa Museo y Escuela Rural, restored in the 19th century, a proposal that “was born with the aim of recovering, protecting and showing the way of life of our ancestors”.

The Arca spring is a historic spring in Ambite, located in the Arca ravine next to the Cordel de las Merinas. The structure of the fountain has been restored and with the benches and the shade of the trees it creates a welcoming space.
