A fantastic cycling route all around. There's plenty of beautiful scenery and information panels. Several locks are located along the way, and there are plenty of nice places to sit. With a bit of luck, you might even spot deer 🦌 in the distance.

With a bit of luck, you might even spot deer 🦌 in the distance. The ferry landing in Gräpel offers a lovely crossing to the other side. There's lots of information available near the ferry landing, so a visit is highly recommended. There are also great places to sit and a shelter.

The Balksee lake is located in the heart of the "Balksee und Randmoore/Basmoor und Nordahner Holz" nature reserve, a virtually untouched moorland and geestrand lake area. Especially from the top, the tower offers unobstructed views over the lake, ideal for birdwatching. With a bit of luck, you might even spot sea eagles and numerous other water birds. The tower is only about 150 meters from the parking lot and is easily accessible by bike or on foot. Inside, you'll find a hut with tables and benches, perfect for a short break and picnic in the great outdoors.

Entrance to the Mehedorfer Heimathaus (open to the public outside), opposite there is also a rest area with information about Mehedorf.

At the end of our tour we enjoyed an ice cream from the farm here. The ice cream is "homemade" with local fruit. The family test was clearly positive. We tried stracciatella, apple-cinnamon sorbet, chocolate with chocolate pieces, caramel, hazelnut and yoghurt-plum. The verdicts for chocolate and yoghurt-plum were "sensational" and all the others were "very good". At the moment there is also the option of getting ice cream in a waffle on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. (Scoop €1.70) The machine is available 24/7. It accepts cash as well as debit and common credit cards. The portion sizes in the machine are 100 ml (€2.50) including spoon and 500 ml.
