The Ermita de la Virgen del Carmen in Chimeneas is a charming little chapel built in the last years of the 19th century. It was built by the residents of Chimeneas as a sign of gratitude for the fact that during the landslides of 1824, also known as the "Andalusian Landslide," there were no personal casualties, although there was considerable damage to houses and the parish church. The hermitage is designed with simple lines and faces south. The interior of the chapel contains an altar with an image of the Virgen del Carmen, and on the walls there are niches with images of San Roque and San Judas.

Chimenas is a municipality in the province of Granada, in the autonomous community of Andalusia, Spain. It is located in the northeastern part of the comarca of Alhama. According to the 2023 census, the municipality had 1,273 inhabitants. The origins of the village date back to the period of Moorish rule. It was a small farm that was later inhabited by several families. There are sources that say that the name may come from the smoke from the chimneys of those first houses, which were a landmark for walkers from afar. Places of interest in Chimenas include the church of Nuestra Señora del Rosario, the hermitage of the Virgen del Carmen, the town hall, the bridge with the twelve eyes, the cistern and the canal. The festivities of Chimenas are held on October 7 in honor of the Virgen del Rosario and on October 28 in honor of San Judas Tadeo.
