The Château de Pierrefonds is already exceptional because of its immense size. Built for the Prince of Orléans (14th century), it is, together with the Château de La Ferté-Milon in the Aisne, an architectural masterpiece for its time. Destroyed and then rebuilt thanks to the architectural star, Eugène Viollet-le-Duc (1857), into a neo-Gothic residence, into a magnificent medieval palace.
