Between 1630 and 1634, plague epidemics brought death everywhere with the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648). In Sarreguemines, the town's water was contaminated. The few doctors there claimed that the spring water had healing powers. The commander of the town and the castle informed the population of the existence of this spring in the heart of the Buchholz forest, hence the name. This explanation appears on a plaque fixed to the spring wall by the Vosges Club. Is the water from this spring still drinkable today? "We don't know due to the lack of recent analysis."
