This 19th-century church pays homage to the Anglo-Saxon hermit monk Vital, who lived in a cave in the rock beneath the church. Vital is the origin of the village of Saint-Viaud and gave it its name (Viaud = Vital).

Built in 1854 at a time when Paimboeuf was the advanced port of Nantes, before being replaced by Saint-Nazaire. It is the only lighthouse on the Loire and the most "land-based" in France because it is 10 km from the ocean.

Unfortunately we didn't see it when we arrived (30.8.24) in the rain. The next day, when it was humid and dry, we were able to marvel at this enormous animal.
