Built in 1854 at a time when Paimboeuf was the advanced port of Nantes, before being replaced by Saint-Nazaire. It is the only lighthouse on the Loire and the most "land-based" in France because it is 10 km from the ocean.

Unfortunately we didn't see it when we arrived (30.8.24) in the rain. The next day, when it was humid and dry, we were able to marvel at this enormous animal.

Allows excess water to flow from the marshes to the Loire in winter and, conversely, to replenish the marshes and canals in summer.

It is a commune with beautiful coastal views a little south of Saint-Brevin-les-Pins. According to legend, in the time of the Druids, the town was called Pontoise. During the revolution it became Union, and finally Saint Brevin, the name it owes to the Archbishop of Canterbury “St Bregwin”. The first references date back to the Middle Ages, the time of a village of farmers, fishermen and sailors.
