UNESCO World Heritage, what more can be said except that the Doubs Valley and the splendid ruins of old medieval castles from the top of wild cliffs have watched over the valley for centuries?

The three Arcier springs are fed by the infiltration waters of the Nancray plateau. Shortly after they gush out of the mountain in beautiful waterfalls, they come together to form the Arcier stream, which quickly flows into the Doubs. They have been known since antiquity, and supply Besançon with water via a Roman aqueduct of which remains remain. Currently, a trout fish farm benefits from its pure, fresh waters.

I have cycled this cycle path several times (different years) and each time I have passed these horrible looking factory ruins on the opposite bank - a very poor reception from Besançon - a real shame.

Beautiful to see how the Citadel of Bresançon (VAUBAN, UNESCO World Heritage Site) dominates its surroundings. If you continue towards Besançon you can soon cycle through a tunnel under the citadel. The Voie Verte you are on is part of the EuroVélo 6 that connects the Atlantic Ocean in France with the Black Sea in Romania.

The Pont de Chardonnet is a bridge over the River Doubs in the French city of Besançon. The bridge was built in 1938 as part of a project to connect the port of Besançon to the railways. The bridge is made of reinforced concrete and has three arches with a span of 43.38 meters each. The bridge was blown up by military authorities on June 16, 1940, during World War II, and later rebuilt. The bridge is now used for pedestrian traffic and connects the Prés-de-Vaux and Bregille districts with the historic center of the city. It is a popular destination for tourists due to its historical importance, architectural splendor and panoramic views.
