Through the vines

This Gothic cathedral from the 13th century dates back to a Romanesque church that was destroyed in the Albigensian War. Before that, there was already a Roman temple on this site. It is impressive and dedicated to the early Christian martyrs St. Nazaire and St. Celes. On the west facade there are two statues called Ecclesia (church) and Synagogue. They are the expression of Christian anti-Semitism in the Middle Ages. With the council decree "Nostra Aetate" of 1965 of the Second Vatican Council, the Catholic Church clearly and unambiguously said goodbye to this view of Judaism.
