ラオンの西、木々が生い茂り起伏のある環境の中心に位置するプレモントレ修道院は、1120年にノルベルト・フォン・ザンテンによって設立されました。プレモントレ修道会の元母院であるこの歴史的な場所は、主要な幹線道路から離れた静かな雰囲気を保っています。

This austere church, contemporary with the cathedral, is a fine example of 12th-century monastic architecture. With its two historiated side tympana, the façade is later, dating from around 1270. Inside, the 17th- and 18th-century woodwork and some elements of medieval funerary sculpture are noteworthy.

Unfortunately, there is no cycle path along the canal here yet. The path to the left before the bridge is a dead end.

The ramparts

Its exceptional character is reinforced by the variety of local climates (from boreal to hot mountain): even in summer, the temperature can be close to zero degrees. The floristic interest is great: an exceptional diversity linked to the presence of varied microclimates over a small area, with many protected species. From a faunal point of view, the site is home to many species of insects, birds, amphibians and reptiles.

Via Francigena: In the village of Cessières, the church of Saint-Sulpice-et-Saint-Antoine was fortunate enough not to be destroyed by the war, unlike the churches in the neighbouring villages.
