A fairly large gravel pit lake on the French side near the PlIttersdorf ferry. Many recreational activities include a campsite, swimming bays, fishing spots, etc. Dredging is still in progress here. This lake (“gravière Epple”) is therefore not as idyllic in atmosphere as the smaller neighboring lake (“gravière de Munchhausen”).

This is where the Sauer River, coming from the Vosges Mountains, flows into the Rhine. The estuary delta is a large floodplain with a wide variety of amphibians and birds – protected since 1997.
