Beautiful chapel. A must-see, don't just visit the basilica. This chapel is worth the detour. A truly moving experience.

The relics of Saint Claude la Colombière, spiritual director of Saint Marguerite-Marie, are venerated in the Chapelle de La Colombière. It houses the relics of Blessed Claude La Colombière (canonized by Pope John Paul II on May 31, 1992), who was St. Margaret-Marie's confidante and supporter in her mission. The Byzantine-inspired chapel, simple from the outside, is enriched inside by mosaics, stained glass windows, carved and painted capitals and sculptures that provide a lavish decoration. In 2012 the chapel was included in the register of historical monuments.

The Basilica of Paray-le-Monial, a Kluniac site, is one of the finest examples of Romanesque art in Burgundy. It is considered a “scaled-down model” of Cluny Abbey. The balance of its proportions and its racy elegance are particularly evident in the gradation of the headboard. The extreme elegance of the recently restored north portal, decorated with motifs inspired by Muslim art, can be admired. Paray-le-Monial is a French town in the Saône-et-Loire department in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region. Paray-le-Monial has 9214 inhabitants (as of January 1st, 2019) and covers an area of approximately 25 km2. The city lies on the Bourbince River and the Canal du Center, which runs parallel to it.
