The solitude of the Gotthard – only the whistling of the wind in your ears…

Besides beautiful paths, there is always something for your calves 😉

It's worth starting the tour early in the morning - apart from perhaps the warning call of a marmot, you won't hear anything up here.

In addition to easy climbing sections, beautiful paths repeatedly lead to the lakes. The atmosphere and tranquility are indescribable. This lake is particularly beautifully nestled among the rocks and, depending on the position of the sun, glows a deep blue.

The Gotthard Pass is harsh and unpredictable: sun, fog, rain, and snow alternate every minute, and wind and rock demand respect. For centuries, pack animals hauled their goods across the Tremola, making it the key between north and south—a place steeped in history and myth. Yet, between barren ridges, clear lakes, and golden evening light, it reveals a beauty that arises precisely from its harshness. This is also the case with this beautiful spot, unexpectedly revealed between rugged cliffs. One of the many surprises along the 5-Lakes Trail.

The Gotthard has many sides, and this is its charm. It's worth taking the time to enjoy the very special atmosphere and tranquility of this place. The Gotthard is rugged, jagged, and rough. Rock as far as the eye can see, often shrouded in clouds, with the wind whistling around your ears as if testing you. A place where the weather can change in rapid succession: one moment sunny, then fog, rain, snow – in the middle of summer. Inhospitable, even at times almost forbidding, as if to say: "Only those who truly want to go through here are allowed to pass through." And yet: It is precisely this harshness that makes it legendary. For centuries, people had to pass through here – traders, pack animals, soldiers. They hauled goods over the cobblestones of the Tremola, battling cold, avalanches, and loneliness. This became history: The Gotthard as the key to the south, a gateway connecting peoples, cultures, and markets. Between the hospice, reservoirs, and peaks, it also reveals an incredible beauty: crystal-clear mountain lakes, tranquil moorland landscapes, and towering rock faces that appear almost golden in the evening light. Those who hike here experience both harshness and magic at the same time. The Gotthard remains a place that demands respect and seduces at the same time.
