This magnificent little village is located on a height. The brick terraces of the southern part of the city overlook the Pyrenees and offer splendid sunsets. Carla-Bayle owes its name to the French philosopher Pierre Bayle, born in the village in 1647. He was a scholar and a thinker mixing skepticism and rationalism. The town, included in the Regional Natural Park of the Ariège Pyrenees and crossed by the river Arize, has a remarkable natural heritage made up of three parts natural areas of ecological, faunal and floristic interest. Les Bordes-sur-Arize is a rural commune and had a population of 499 in 2020, following a population peak of 1,375 inhabitants in 1846. The inhabitants are referred to as Bordéens or Bordéennes.

A nice, easy route form Beaumont sur Lèze towards Saint Ybar. The route roughly follows the river Lèze (D74) and is a very nice alternative for the busy D4 which runs on the other side of the river and is mainly used by cars and trucks.

Very pretty road (and pretty climb) which will bring you to the very pretty site of Carla-Bayle.

A nice, quiet, alternative route from Beaumont towards Lezat. Easy cycling, nice field, especially when they are covered with sunflowers. Much better then the busy D4, which follows roughly the same route.

Nice, easy route east of the river Lèze. Great landscape with almost no traffic. Follow D74 from Beaumont-sur-Lèze, all the way to Saint-Ybars.
