Beware of bad weather; get good information before the ascent because from October to May it can be really problematic, especially in winter.

The name comes from the stone boundary markers erected in the 18th century to demarcate lands acquired by Charles III for hunting. During the Spanish Civil War, it was a strategic area with a Republican detachment stationed there. It formerly housed the Valcotos ski resort, which no longer exists.

Note: behind this mountain goat there is a huge abyss, you can't see the photo and apparently not the goat either 😀

Circo de Gredos, a cirque formed by a glacier, covers approximately 33 hectares. The barren, rocky, high-mountain landscape of this cirque is spectacular and one of the absolute highlights of the Central System. To the north, at the foot of the Almanzor, lies the Laguna Grande lake.

Nearly extinct but recently saved is the emblematic mountain goat.

The path is covered with rocks and stones, easy to walk in itself, but not a single stone is straight, so mountain sticks are useful.

Here the road ends with a parking lot. It's also the starting point for the famous hike to Gredos Grande Lagoon and other walks.

From this point it is difficult to see that it is a circus, but it is breathtakingly beautiful.
