The Plague Column in Bratislava, also known as the Holy Trinity Column, was erected in 1712–1713 as a token of thanks for the end of a devastating plague epidemic. It is located on Rybné námestie, not far from the Danube and St. Martin's Cathedral, and is one of the few remaining plague memorials in the city. The Baroque monument bears a depiction of the Holy Trinity at its spire, while figures of saints such as Rochus, Charles Borromeo, Andrew, the Mother of God, and St. Stephen, Hungary's first king, are attached to the base. Today, the column not only commemorates the victims of the plague but is also a striking example of Baroque art in Bratislava's cityscape.

The Pink Whale is a cultural ship on the Danube in Bratislava, moored firmly on the bank near the Old Town. Located below Bratislava Castle, it serves as a venue for concerts, parties, and creative events. With its open-deck structure, the ship offers a unique atmosphere—urban, alternative, and right on the water. Especially in the evenings, the Pink Whale becomes a popular meeting place for the local cultural scene and guests from all over the world. From the deck, you can enjoy a sweeping view of the Danube, the Petržalka embankment, and Bratislava's historic center.

It is the only surviving of two original plague columns in Bratislava and today stands prominently on the Danube promenade, near the Slovak National Uprising Bridge (Most SNP) and St. Martin's Cathedral. The column features typical Baroque elements such as figures of saints and a depiction of the Virgin Mary at the top – a classic motif for plague memorials in Central Europe.

Michalská brána / Michael's Gate, Bratislava / Pressburg The elegant onion-shaped roof of the Michael's Gate is one of the landmarks of the city of Bratislava. Of the original four entrance gates of the city fortifications, only the northern Michalská Gate has survived. It was completed in the 14th century. It was named after the Gothic church of St. Michal, which was located in front of the fortress and was demolished in the 16th century due to the incursions of Turkish troops. Since its creation, it was expanded several times until it acquired its final appearance in the 18th century, shortly before almost all of the city fortifications were demolished. Due to its high onion-shaped roof, the gate tower is one of the landmarks of the Old Town. The balcony offers a panoramic view of the Castle Hill, the roofs and towers of the city, and the villa district in the hills. The Grassalkovich Palace is the residence of the President of the Slovak Republic. It was built in 1760 by the architect Andreas Mayerhoffer for Count Antal Grassalkovich I, President of the Royal Hungarian Court Chamber, along with a baroque garden (behind the building and now freely accessible). Immediately after the incorporation of Bratislava into the new Czechoslovak state on January 1, 1919, the palace housed the command of the 33rd Regiment of the Czechoslovak Legions, which received city representatives there. As property of the Habsburgs, the young Czechoslovak Republic confiscated the property. After three years of renovation, the Grassalkovich Palace was officially handed over to Michal Kováč, then President of Slovakia, on September 30, 1996, and has served as the official residence of the President ever since. Previously, the president had to use rooms in Bratislava Castle and the city's Primate's Palace. The Lustgarten was fenced in and renovated, but only vaguely resembles the original Baroque garden. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palais_Grassalkovich

The Holocaust in Slovakia was the systematic expropriation, deportation, and murder of Jews in the Slovak Republic, a client state of Nazi Germany, during World War II. Of 89,000 Jews in the country in 1940, an estimated 69,000 were murdered in the Holocaust. After liberation by the Red Army, survivors faced renewed anti-Semitism and difficulties in recovering stolen property; most emigrated after the communist coup of 1948. The postwar communist regime censored discussion of the Holocaust; free speech was restored after the fall of the communist regime in 1989. The Slovak government's complicity in the Holocaust continues to be denied by far-right nationalists. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Holocaust_in_Slovakia

Rybné námestie (German: Fischplatz, Hungarian: Hál-tér) is a square outside the historic city walls. After a plague epidemic raged in the city of Bratislava in 1713 and claimed 3,860 lives, two plague columns were erected, one of which still stands [here] today. [...] As the regulation of the Danube progressed in the 19th century, the bank moved further away from the square. [...] The late 1960s and early 1970s marked a serious intervention in the image of the square. With the construction of the new bridge of the Slovak National Uprising, large parts of the square and its surroundings disappeared, including the building of the municipal brewery and the synagogue. Since then, only a plague column and two town houses remain at the meeting point with Hviezdoslavovo námestie and Pánska Street. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rybn%C3%A9_n%C3%A1mestie

The Slovak National Museum (SNM) in Bratislava is one of the most important cultural and scientific institutions in Slovakia. Its headquarters are located on the Danube embankment, in a building that is an important historical and architectural monument in itself. The Slovak National Museum was founded in 1893 as the National Museum in Martin, which was later moved to Bratislava, where it gradually expanded and developed into its present form. The SNM in Bratislava has its roots in the efforts of Slovak nationalists to preserve and present the national cultural heritage. During the 20th century, the museum grew and acquired many collections that document the history, culture and natural wealth of Slovakia. The main building of the Slovak National Museum on Vajanské nábreží was built between 1925 and 1928 according to the design of architect M. M. Harminc. The building is an example of neoclassical architecture, and its monumental appearance with massive columns and rich decoration reflects the importance of the museum as the main cultural institution of the country. The building is situated on the banks of the Danube, which gives it a prominent location in the urban environment. There are other important monuments near the museum, such as the statue of Milan Rastislav Štefánik and the Slovak National Gallery. Collections and Exhibitions The SNM in Bratislava manages extensive collections that cover a wide range of fields, including archaeology, history, ethnology, natural sciences, art and culture. The most significant exposures include: Historical exhibition: This exhibition focuses on Slovak history from prehistoric times to the modern period. Visitors can see various artifacts, documents and exhibits that illustrate key moments in the history of Slovakia. Natural history exhibition: This part of the museum is dedicated to the fauna, flora and geology of Slovakia. It contains collections of fossils, minerals, stuffed animals and botanical specimens. Ethnological exhibition: Focused on traditional Slovak culture and folklore. This exhibition includes costumes, handicrafts, tools and other artifacts that represent the traditional way of life in the Slovak countryside. The museum also regularly organizes temporary exhibitions that deal with various topics, often in collaboration with other museums and institutions.

It is located on Michalská Street, which is part of the old town, and is the only preserved gate from the original city fortifications. History Michael's Gate was built in the 14th century as part of the city walls that surrounded and protected medieval Bratislava. The gate served as an entrance and exit to the city from the north side and was one of the four main gates (along with Vydricka, Laurinska and Rybárská gates). In the 18th century, the gate was rebuilt in the Baroque style and acquired its characteristic shape, which is known today. The tower of Michael's Gate, which is 51 meters high, is crowned with a statue of St. Michael the Archangel slaying a dragon. This motif symbolizes the protection of the city from evil and danger. The gate is a four-story tower, which is a distinctive landmark of the historical center of Bratislava. Its architecture combines Gothic and Baroque elements, which makes it unique. On the upper floor of the tower there is a walkway from which there is a wonderful view of the old town and the surrounding parts of Bratislava. In the passage of the gate, above the arch, there is a historical portal with an inscription that informs about the reconstruction of the gate in the 18th century. Michalská street passes under the gate, which today is a busy pedestrian zone, full of shops, restaurants and cafes. Inside the Michael's Gate is the Weapons Museum, which is part of the City Museum in Bratislava. The museum offers an exhibition of historical weapons, armor and artifacts related to the defense of the city. Visitors can climb to the top of the tower and enjoy a panoramic view of Bratislava. In addition to the gate itself, parts of the city walls that are accessible to the public have also been preserved. A walk along these walls offers a unique view of the city's fortifications and allows visitors to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the medieval city.
