    Il castello in rovina sopra la città di Dürnstein fu costruito nel XII secolo. Il castello è conosciuto grazie a un famoso prigioniero: il re inglese Riccardo Cuor di Leone vi tenne dal dicembre 1192 al marzo 1193 al ritorno dalla sua terza crociata e fu poi ceduto all'imperatore tedesco Enrico VI. consegnato.
