    Appena fuori dalle porte del centro storico di Cartagena si erge un'imponente fortezza: il Castillo San Felipe de Barajas. Fu costruito poco dopo la fondazione di Cartagena per proteggere la nuova città portuale coloniale, che accumulava oro e argento, dagli attacchi di pirati e corsari.
