    Questo castello del XII secolo, che si trovava sul porto, è uno dei castelli più antichi della Normandia. È una delle poche fortificazioni medievali conservate. L'ex avamposto delle fortificazioni di Coutances prende il nome dai proprietari del castello dell'XI-XIV secolo. I signori di Pirou erano imparentati con la casata dei De Hauteville, alla quale appartennero diversi fondatori del regno normanno in Sicilia.
    Fino alla fine del '700 il castello appartenne a diverse famiglie nobili, prima di diventare un importante covo di contrabbandieri e infine essere trasformato in azienda agricola nell'800.

    Il castello di Pirou è più un castello di pianura che un tipico castello. Le parti più antiche del complesso risalgono al XII secolo. Dal 1968 il complesso è stato gradualmente restaurato.
