    La torre della chiesa di San Giacomo era particolarmente importante per la navigazione. Le navi potevano essere viste dalla torre. La torre poteva essere vista da lontano in mare, insieme a molte altre torri come la Gevangentoren. Nella St. Jacobskerk, due monumenti funebri ricordano il passato della VOC. Il monumento funebre di Jan Lambrechtsen Coolen è appeso a un muro. Oltre ad essere regista e commerciante, Coolen è stato anche sindaco di Vlissingen. Il secondo monumento funerario appartiene a Daniel Octavius Barwell. Questo memoriale raffigura un East Indiaman che affonda. Sul muro sono appesi gli stemmi della famiglia Lampsins.

    Indicazione storica:
    la Sint Jacobskerk fu costruita nel periodo 1308 - 1328. La chiesa fu ampliata intorno al 1500 con una chiesa cruciforme e nuovamente ampliata nel 1558.
    Nel 1911 la chiesa e la torre furono in gran parte distrutte da un incendio. La ricostruzione fu completata nel 1915. Nel 1954 la chiesa fu restaurata a causa dei pesanti danni bellici del 1944.
    L'ultimo restauro è stato effettuato nel 1998. La torre non è di proprietà della chiesa, ma è di proprietà della città di Vlissingen.
