The castle grounds themselves provide pleasant strolls, and the surrounding Cappenberg Forest features numerous well-maintained trails. Look for shorter, circular paths that explore the natural beauty and offer views of the castle.

Is Schloss Cappenberg accessible by public transport?

Are dogs allowed on the trails and within the castle grounds at Schloss Cappenberg?

Dogs are generally welcome on the outdoor walking trails around Schloss Cappenberg and in the surrounding forest, provided they are kept on a leash. However, access for dogs inside the castle buildings, museums, or the collegiate church is typically restricted, with the exception of service animals. Most notably, within the southern transept of the Romanesque Collegiate Church, you can admire the Cappenberg Barbarossa's Head, a gilded bronze portrait bust of Emperor Frederick Barbarossa dating back to around 1160.
