    Questo tratto del sentiero attraversa un mix di pini e latifoglie e scende rapidamente (se vi dirigete a nord da Winding Stairs) in una splendida gola rocciosa, dove il fiume taglia la novaculite, formando fantastiche, profonde e limpide pozze d'acqua, perfette per rinfrescarsi nelle giornate più calde. Il sentiero segue il fiume a monte con diversi attraversamenti e un dislivello costante, prima di raggiungere il bivio Athens-Big Fork in circa 5,6 km. Lungo il percorso, tenete gli occhi aperti per avvistare cervi, uccelli canterini e, se siete qui in primavera, vedrete tantissimi splendidi fiori selvatici, soprattutto nei tratti più aperti.
