    L'antica strada romana che collegava Augusta Emerita (Mérida) a Bracara Augusta (Braga) passava di qui, attraversando il fiume su un ponte oggi scomparso, di cui rimangono solo le fondamenta. Su questi ponti sorge l'attuale Ponte Velha in granito, il cui aspetto risale a tempi antichissimi ma che, in realtà, è un'opera filippina, risalente al XVII secolo o più tardi.
