    Il castello di Montaigle è senza dubbio una delle rovine più impressionanti del Belgio. Per ordine di Carlo V, il magnifico edificio fu saccheggiato e incendiato dalle truppe francesi nel 1554. Sebbene sia stato gravemente danneggiato, visitandone le rovine è ancora possibile farsi un'idea delle sue antiche dimensioni. Dalle mura difensive e dai resti delle torri si gode una splendida vista sulla valle del Flavion e sul paesaggio circostante.

    Situato alla confluenza della Molignée e del Flavion, in cima a una ripida roccia, il castello di Montaigle era un luogo di guarnigione alla fine dell'insediamento romano durante il Tardo Impero Romano (III-V secolo).
    La fortezza fu fondata all'inizio del XIV secolo su un edificio più antico dalla famiglia Dampièrre, che allora governava la contea di Namur.
