L'autorità della chiesa di mezzo era l'arcidiaconato di Karlstadt.
Nel 1167 le chiese e cappelle di Altengronau, Gundhelm, Hohenzell, Mottgers, Oberkalbach, Steckelberg, Steinbach, Sterbfritz, Zeitlofs e Züntersbach appartenevano alla parrocchia di Ramholz. Nel 1354 la parrocchia fu incorporata nell'abbazia di Schluechtern, che già nel 1039 aveva ricevuto il patrocinio della chiesa in dono dell'abbazia di Fulda.
Durante la Riforma, la contea di Hanau-Münzenberg si unì inizialmente alla denominazione luterana e dal 1597 fu riformata.
