    Sfortunatamente, il monastero di Mariwawald sarà chiuso nel corso del 2018. I dieci monaci che ancora vivono qui sono ormai molto anziani e non possono continuare a gestire il monastero senza supporto. Inoltre, le operazioni del monastero non generano più denaro sufficiente per finanziare il monastero. L'uso futuro dell'edificio è ancora in discussione. Si desidera che continui ad essere un luogo spirituale che apprezzi la tradizione secolare.

    Qui nell'Abbazia di Mariawald c'è la migliore zuppa di piselli fatta in casa (per la benedizione di Dio). Il mio consiglio: da Heimbach, prendi il sentiero segnalato (necessari scarpe robuste) fino a Mariawald. Premiati con una zuppa di piselli e una fresca birra monaca e poi torna indietro. Bella gita di un giorno. (Attenzione: sconsigliato con il bel tempo a causa del sovraffollamento)

    L'abbazia stessa è un monastero tra i tanti, la zuppa di piselli è deliziosa.
    Ci sono alcune cose da acquistare nel negozio del monastero, anche se non proprio economiche, come quattro diversi tipi di birra, di cui una prodotta esclusivamente per l'abbazia dal birrificio Bitburger secondo la propria ricetta.
    L'abbazia sarà presto chiusa, ma il ristorante e il negozio del monastero continueranno.
