La torre fu costruita nel 1664 per ordine di Valerius (Watse) Frans van Cammingha e Rixt van Donia, allora Lord e Lady di Ameland.

    Nel 1732, la torre del villaggio fu innalzata per ordine del principe Guglielmo IV, allora signore di Ameland, per fungere da faro per la spedizione. Da quel momento in poi la guglia originaria lasciò il posto all'attuale tetto a capanna.
