    Il 12 marzo 1834 il mercante di Bochum Georg Cramer trovò un giacimento di carbone a circa 100 metri a sud-ovest della casa di Heiermann zu Stiepel, all'uscita di una gola di montagna che sfocia nella zona dei prati, e presentò un reclamo al Royal Autorità mineraria prussiana.
