    Housesteads è il forte romano più completo sopravvissuto in Gran Bretagna. Situato in alto su una drammatica scarpata sul Vallo di Adriano, da questo punto ci sono spettacolari viste panoramiche. Dato che il forte è così ben conservato, puoi camminare attraverso antiche baracche e l'ospedale e sbirciare nel bagno più antico che vedrai.

    Si pensa che il forte romano di Housesteads sia stato costruito intorno al 124 d.C. e formasse una parte importante del Vallo dell'imperatore Adriano. Oggi il sito è di proprietà del National Trust e gestito da English Heritage. Puoi esplorare i resti della caserma e dell'ospedale, anche se dovrai acquistare un biglietto.

    I resti possono essere ammirati anche da lontano percorrendo il Sentiero Nazionale del Vallo di Adriano. Il centro visitatori è una buona opzione per parcheggiare per iniziare un'escursione nella zona.
